Dad's (Robert Schuller) Health Update

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Rev. Robert Schuller. Orange Drive-In Theater/Church, June 30, 1957

One of the great legacies I will always carry with me is the privilege of meeting and getting to really know many incredible "legends" of faith.  Dr. Norman Vincent Peale is one of those great legends!  I first met Dr. Peale when I was three years old and to be honest I do not remember that first connection.  What I do recall is the forty-plus years after that first introduction where I had time to get to know the man that was an amazing human being, pastor, husband, and father.  He was definitely a mentor to my father and thus my father modeled much of Dr. Peale's type of "faith" mentoring for me.   What a legacy!

My dad is now is a care facility in Orange County, California and I get to see him often when I am in town.   His cancer seems to be in some kind of remission although I have not had it confirmed.  It really doesn't much matter because what is important to me is that he is happy and his attitude is great.  He mentions my mother nearly every time I visit him so I have stopped confirming her death as it is too painful for him to deal with.  I try to keep every conversation focused on the great times of the past.

I share some great memories with my father including our many times with Dr. and Mrs. Peale and their family; who Donna and I are still friends with today.   Recollecting these and other times together gives Dad and I strength and hope.
Remember to practice "Reminiscent therapy" with your older parents, loved-ones, and friends.  It will make all the difference.
